Eco-Friendly Binder Materials: Kraft, Recycled Board & Poly

If sustainability is part of your brand story, your binders can back it up. Here are the constructions we recommend when environmental impact drives the spec.

Kraft board binders

Kraft binders are made from dense recycled paperboard with a natural, uncoated surface. The material itself is the aesthetic — earthy, honest, and instantly recognizable as recycled. They decorate beautifully with one-color screen printing or blind debossing.

Single-material poly

Poly binders are one sheet of polyethylene — remove the ring metal and the entire binder is recyclable in one stream. Poly also lasts longer in hard use, which keeps binders out of the waste stream in the first place.

Recycled board under any cover

Even in vinyl and turned edge constructions, the boards inside are typically high recycled-content chipboard. Ask us about recycled-content certifications if your procurement process requires documentation.

What makes a binder hard to recycle

Mixed materials are the enemy: vinyl sealed over board is difficult to separate, and laminated covers combine paper with plastic film. If end-of-life recyclability is the priority, kraft and poly are the honest answers.
