Poly Binder Material: Flexible, Tear-Proof & Recyclable

Poly binders are cut from a single sheet of polyethylene plastic — no boards, no sealed seams, nothing to delaminate. They're the go-to for binders that get thrown in truck cabs, toolboxes, and backpacks.

How a poly binder is built

A poly binder is die-cut from one solid sheet of polyethylene. Hinges are scored directly into the material, so there are no glued or welded joints to fail. Ring metals rivet directly to the plastic.

Thickness options

Poly sheet runs from thin, flexible gauges (think report covers) up to rigid heavy gauges that feel closer to a board binder. Common custom binder gauges are in the 0.023"–0.055" range — heavier gauge for bigger rings and heavier content.

Why choose poly

• Practically indestructible — poly won't tear at the hinge, crack in cold, or absorb moisture
• Lightweight — noticeably lighter than board-based binders, which cuts shipping cost
• Translucent and solid colors — frosted translucents are a signature poly look
• Recyclable — a single-material construction is easy to recycle

Decorating poly

Poly is usually screen printed in spot colors. The surface can be textured or matte; foil stamping is generally not recommended on poly.

When to choose something else

Poly covers can't carry full-color edge-to-edge printed graphics the way litho wrap or turned edge constructions do, and light-gauge poly doesn't stand upright on a shelf like a board binder. For premium presentation, step up a construction level.
